Learning Rx Center

Free Cognitive Skills Testing

The Learning Rx Center in Cedar Rapids has received a grant from the Gibson Institute of Cognitive Research that allows them to offer students at Isaac Newton Christian Academy an opportunity to take the Gibson Test of Cognitive Skills for free. The test evaluates a student’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses–the skills that make up their IQ, their ability to pay attention, and their capacity to learn, think and perform at school and life.

The Gibson Test of Cognitive Skills can be taken in the comfort of your home. It takes about an hour for the student to complete and normally sells for $97.00.  Thanks to the grant, the test is being made available to our students for free.

To register your child or to obtain more information please contact Patrick or Courtney Axline at Learning RX Cedar Rapids at 319-393-0067 or email: p.axline@learningrx.net

NewBoCo offering CODE++

NewBo is excited to offer a code camp for female students in grades 8-12!

GirlsCode++ is a one day event to teach 8th-12th grade girls about programming. The beginner group will learn HTML and CSS to build their own website. Students with prior HTML and CSS experience may choose to add JavaScript to their skills in the advanced group. They will also learn about careers in computer science. A light breakfast and lunch will be included.

This event would not be possible without our sponsors, Best Buy, Converge Consulting, ImOn Communications, Kum & Go, McKee Voorhees & Sease, US Bank, Workiva, and Pear Deck. A big thank you to everyone involved!

Limited scholarships are available. Scholarship application: Click here

While Computer Science is one of the fastest growing majors today, women make up only 18% of graduates. We can change this and have fun at the same time.

In February 2016, we held the first girls-only code camp in Iowa. The event exceeded our expectations – more than 50 middle and high school girls attended! We’ve since decided to support a variety of programs state-wide aimed at encouraging girls to experience and consider careers in computer science.
